Slate, stone and weather in Brits
Brits lies on the Crocodile River flats between Pretoria and Rustenburg, close to the Hartbeespoort holiday belt, so slate shows up on braai areas, pool surrounds and stone-clad entrances of weekend houses and smallholdings. Black cotton soil in parts of the district swells and shrinks, which cracks rigid floors and paving unless the bed is solid and movement joints are cut. Highveld hail damages roof tiles and slate-look sheets, and strong sun fades unsealed stone on open patios. Local tile shops and builders' merchants stock common slate and paving, while Pretoria yards supply larger or special orders and deliver to farms and estates around the dam.
Typical black slate tiles requests in the area come from:
- Suburban homes: honed black slate in kitchens, bathrooms and entrance halls of family homes
- Farms, lodges and wine estates: dark slate floors and hearths in farmhouses and lodges that hide daily wear
- Security and golf estates: dark slate floors and feature walls that suit the clean lines of modern estate homes
- New builds and developments: black slate chosen early so floor levels, sealing and lighting suit the finished room
- Restaurants, hotels and offices: black slate floors and bar fronts in restaurants, hotels and showrooms
- Older and heritage homes: dark slate hearths and hall floors that sit well with period features in older homes
Why get a quote in Brits first?
Prices for black slate tiles in Brits depend on the exact stone, finish, thickness, quantities, current stock and delivery. A quote based on your details is the quickest way to know what you will pay, and it shows what is included before anything starts.
What to include in your request
- State the area in m² and where the tile will go.
- Say whether you want honed, cleft or brushed.
- Mention if it is for a shower or wet area.
- Ask for a sample of the actual batch.
- Say if you want a sealer supplied or tiling included.
The more detail you give, the more accurate your quote will be.
